Scope

Service role

Release 1 also had to prove the workplace services were usable. The evidence shows Microsoft 365 services working from the realistic Microsoft hybrid enterprise environment.

Exchange Hybrid validation

Exchange Hybrid is the core service validation path for Release 1 because it connects identity, messaging, namespace, certificates, mailbox access, and user-facing Microsoft 365 service readiness.

The implementation was scoped as a pilot-first validation exercise. It does not present the work as a full enterprise migration program. It validates a controlled, supportable connection between on-premises Exchange and Exchange Online.

Key validation signals include:

  • Exchange hybrid readiness checks.
  • Controlled pilot mailbox movement.
  • Post-migration Outlook access.
  • Hybrid service readiness sufficient for the scoped Release 1 path.
  • Recovery from migration friction rather than presenting the process as frictionless.

Microsoft 365 collaboration baseline

Teams and SharePoint were included because Microsoft 365 operations require more than mailbox movement.

Namespace and certificate discipline

The Release 1 hybrid path used corp.azawslab.co.uk for the hybrid validation scope while keeping the root business mail namespace separate.

Hybrid messaging depends on namespace planning, certificate handling, and clear production cutover assumptions. Release 1 kept the validation path scoped and evidenced.

The documented approach shows:

  • The hybrid namespace was deliberately chosen.
  • Certificate handling supported Release 1 validation.
  • The project kept full enterprise PKI and full production migration maturity outside the Release 1 scope.

Advanced email security validation

Email security was added after the original Modern Workplace baseline was stable.
